James Farm Adds to Collection of Historic Items
KEARNEY, Mo.: The Jesse James Farm in Kearney has created a new special exhibit devoted to a collection of photographs, newspaper clippings and other items purchased from Rosalie Youngblood.
Youngblood received the collection from her aunt,
Gladys Milligan. Gladys and her husband, Shafter, worked at the James Farm in
the 1950's and 60's. The collection was given to Gladys and Shafter by Mae
James, wife of Frank James’ son, Robert.
“We are always pleased to add new material to our
collection,” said Clay County Historic Sites Manager, Elizabeth Gilliam
Beckett. “By creating new exhibits we
make sure that visitors go home happy, and give a reason for people who have
visited the farm in the past, to come back.”
The Rosalie Youngblood Collection will be on display
through the first week of May.
The Jesse James Farm and Museum offers several attractions including: a short film that offers an introduction to the James brothers, guided tours of the home and a gift shop. The Friends of the James Farm is a non profit group that was started in 1981 to restore and promote the farm. You can become a member by making a donation to the organization. Depending on your level of participation, membership includes several benefits such as: a quarterly newsletter, free admission to the museum and discounts at the museum gift shop.
